Social art and craft workshop. Try your hand at some new and unusual techniques in a fun and friendly atmosphere. You’ll even receive a voucher  to enjoy a brew in our cafe when you’re done!  In this next series we will be taking inspiration from a selection of Whitworth Art Gallery’s Textile Collection, displayed in the textile cases and featuring a wide range of work all exploring ‘Tradition and Innovation’.

Our last session before the Whitworth closes for redevelopment on September 1st-Summer 2014…

Saturday 17 August – Stewart Kelly

Stewarts workshop encourages us to explore Traditional Quilting Techniques in a contemporary context. We will utilise the textiles on display as inspiration to create an individual design. We will then explore ‘Kantha’ quilting techniques in order to translate your design into text.

Previous Sessions Include…

 Caroline Coates

Caroline will be running a session on Needle Felting. Doesn’t matter if your a beginner Caroline will show the way into needle felting.

Jane Dennerly

Jane will be taking us into the world of Silk Cuff making. She will teach us how to make a lovely silk cuffs  or bracelets using fabric manipulation techniques.

 Kathryn Edwards

Kathryn will be running this session and will teach us some lovely crafty techniques.

Making stamps for repeat patterns

Alicia Gledhill

Alicia will be running a sessions on 3D Hand Embrodiery. Showing you how to get some truly 3D work with an innovative technique.

Andrea Lord

Andrea will be leading a session called Embroider Doodle. This will a workshop on freestyle doodle drawings and the exploration of embroidery stitches to add texture & colour to create some beautiful pieces of work

UP-CYCLING 

Zoe James started the Up-Cycling session of with a great start earlier this year with an interesting way to use foam pipes. Check out what happened here…
