Lecture with Sandy Nairne, Director, National Portrait Gallery
Looking at Self-Portraits: Constructing the Artist is a talk about the way that artists have portrayed themselves over time. For many artists the construction of their self-image has been both a repetitive and challenging matter. And while some have used it to test their skills in forming a likeness, others have seen it as an opportunity for innovation and experiment. Using examples from the National Portrait Gallery’s extensive collection of self-portraits, Sandy Nairne’s talk will explore themes of identity and representation in a contemporary context.
