Weave through the Whitworth’s gallery space and create your own route, leaving an interactive trail for others to discover…
A fantastic way to view our new exhibition in a completely different light and challenge the conventions of navigating a gallery space. These free tours are not to be missed. No need to book, simply meet at the gallery desk.
This tour has been developed from our student tour programme ‘The Knowledge Series’ and was devised by Sophie Preston in response to our latest exhibition, Projections: Works from The Artangel Collection, 2 July to 4 September 2011.
Featuring ground-breaking film and video installations from two decades of Artangel commissions, Projections includes High Wire, Catherine Yass’s multi-screen installation of a vertiginous walk in the sky; The Nightwatch by Francis Alÿs which tracks the nocturnal wanderings of a fox through a gallery at night, and Atom Egoyan’s Steenbeckett, based on the moving monologue from Samuel Beckett’s Krapp’s Last Tape. Outside, Tony Oursler’s The Influence Machine, a spectral son-et-lumière with videos projected onto trees and smoke, haunts Whitworth Park after dark.
The Influence Machine
