After Hours with BlackLab and friends

October 12, 2011

Saturday 15th October. 7.30pm. FREE

In response to our Dark Matters exhibition, join us for an evening with BlackLab, breathing new life into the presentation of still pictures by creating spaces in which images can collide and collude with film, soundscapes, slogans and texts.

Featuring live music, projections and art. Come along and see Dark Matters in a new light…

In addition to the BlackLab projections, performances will also include –

Birchall / Cheetham Duo (UK)

Andrew and David met when they performed as part of Rhys Chatham’s G3 ensemble in Manchester early 2011. Since then they have developed a sound exploring the deconstruction of rock music within the wider context of free improvisation. Both musicians are committed to the exploration of dynamics, texture, tone and rhythm. Their debut CD-R will be released on MIE Music (http://www.miemusic.co.uk/) this autumn.

For fans of free jazz, noise, drone and generally far out music.

The Otto Show

As The Otto Show, Otto Smart has been recording and playing concerts nationally and internationally for over 12 years, having released five albums both privately and through the labels Annika and Vespertine & Son. Over the past three years The Otto Show has become a trio with the addition of Sophia Lockwood on cello and Chris Payne on soprano saxophone. They were subsequently commissioned by Chorlton Arts Festival to write and perform a live film score for Alfred Hitchcock’s silent film ‘The Lodger’, performed as a live soundtrack at several venues, most recently at Cornerhouse, Manchester, and also in a special ‘concert version’ at The Royal Exchange foyer.

The Otto show will be performing a live score to animations by Lotte Reiniger, who’s work features in our new Shadow Lab.

Sponsored by Barefoot wine so get there early for your free glass!
