Looking back at last weekend’s drumming series with Sidiki Dembele

August 28, 2012

This past weekend saw the gallery alive with rhythm as djembe drummer Sidiki Dembele and his band led two workshops and a music performance at the Raw Social. By remixing traditional West African djembe and dundun drums with contemporary electronic beats we created one of a kind sounds right here in the gallery. All the public had a chance to bang on the drums, whether experts in rhythm or complete beginners.

Hailing from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Sidiki Dembele and his band played various drums, flutes, African harps, synths, and vocals to create together a unique sound. It was incredibly fun to liven up the weekend with music that made the art dance in the galleries, offering a totally different dynamic to the culture of We Face Forward.
