Radical Women, Works from the Whitworth Collection: 23 March

Whitworth Art Gallery is pleased to be part of the Wonder Women: Radical Manchester cultural programme. Join our curators behind the scenes on an exclusive tour to celebrate some of the most radical and innovative women within our historic and contemporary collections.

In celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March a month long programme of arts and culture events will run between 3 March and 4 April. 2013 will commence a five year long project leading up to the centenary of the first women’s right to vote in 2018. The politics of protest and progress are explored in gallery talks, city walking tours, exhibitions, late night events, live performances, film, photography and collections – with performance poets, authors, singers, musicians, girl geeks, historians, clerics and DJs. For the comprehensive list of events, see the page here. Keep up to date on the Creative Tourist blog here.

Manchester had a key role in the suffragette movement across the country. Being a centre for the dramatic tensions that escalated for years, Manchester celebrates its radical feminine heritage with educational and entertaining events. Show your activism and get involved!

Whitworth Art Gallery, 23 March, 11am (textiles), 1pm (fine art and prints), free (booking essential via whitworth@manchester.ac.uk or 0161 275 7450)
