Bunford & Kashiwagi… In the mix & friends. Saturday 13 October. 7.30 – 10.30pm, free

Musician, Huw Bunford (Super Furry Animals) and artist, Naomi Kashiwagi perform new soundscapes that tune into and crank up the volume of found sounds. The evening will also feature a live drawing performance from artist Naomi Kendrick responding to improvised music from Dave Birchall and Dan Bridgewood-Hill.

Hockney’s New York Loft Party. Saturday 15 December. 7.30 – 10.30pm, free

Inspired by our Hockney to Hogarth exhibition, join us for an evening of music, poetry, and performance capturing the essence of the 1961 New York art scene, the year of Hockney’s life changing visit.

Saturday 21 April 7.30 – 10.30pm, free

Taking inspiration from action weaver Travis Meinolf, join us for an

evening of interesting and unique performances that intertwine themselves into our exhibitions and spaces.

Join us to celebrate the start of the Manchester Histories Festival with an offbeat evening of discussions music and performance responding to our exhibition, COTTON: Global Threads. w:

Friday 19th August, 7.30pm. FREE

Responding to themes within the current exhibition, Projections: Works from The Artangel Collection, you’re invited join us for an evening of ‘solos’ within the gallery. From Jason Singh‘s ambient soundscapes, made up of layers of vocal textures, to a unique performance of Philip Glass pieces from the RNCM’s Prism Quartet, challenging the conventions of group performance by splitting the string players up around the building. Humble Soul artist Liz Green will conclude the night with an intimate performance within the stunning Pilkington gallery.

Featuring ground-breaking film and video installations from two decades of Artangel commissions, Projections includes High Wire, Catherine Yass’s multi-screen installation of a vertiginous walk in the sky, Seven Walks by Francis Alÿs and Atom Egoyan’s Steenbeckett, based on the moving monologue from Samuel Beckett’s Krapp’s Last Tape. You’re free to explore these works and others during the evening.

In response to our Dark Matters exhibition, join us for an evening with BlackLab, breathing new life into the presentation of still pictures by creating spaces in which images can collide and collude with film, soundscapes, slogans and texts. This event is part of the Manchester Weekender.

Friday 16th December, 7.30pm – 10.30pm. Free

Enjoy a decidedly sophisticated evening in the gallery for the last After Hours of the year. Take in a variety of performances, from music to poetry, whist indulging in some festive treats.
